I have tried pop.gmail.com:995 & smtp.gmail.com:587 but they do not work of course as that syntax would require an IP address rather than a DNS name. Any thought?I found I was successful today just using the server name without adding any port information. That said, I was using IMAP so your experience may vary. Yeah so i kinda figured out the solution myself a long time ago but forgot about this thread until someone commented and the notification pops op. Go to your gmail account, go to settings (the gear icon on the top right), select 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP', scroll down ad select 'enable IMAP', click save changes at the bottom off the page.Work like a charm to me, hope this help!I'm aware of that little wrinkle, but it wasn't applicable in my particular case today.I was setting up Mail on a family member's new PC so the forwarding option had already been enabled.Using advanced settings and setting the server parameters manually did the trick though even though I couldn't enter port info. I suspect the Mail app knows default port settings built in that work successfully.
